Coldplay Heading For No 1
Article published: Fri, 20 June 2008 00:22:42AM
Coldplay could be heading for their first UK No 1 single.
The band may have stormed into first place with their albums, but they've never hit the top spot in the UK with a single.
All that could change when the Official Charts Company announce the new Top 40 on Sunday. Even though the single isn't physically in the shops yet, Viva La Vida - the title track from their new album, is being downloaded by large numbers and has a real chance of making the top spot, HMV said.
HMV's Gennaro Castaldo said: "The Coldplay success story just keeps getting bigger. Not only is Viva La Vida set to become the biggest-selling album release of 2008, but the band are also on course to enjoy their first-ever double No 1 single and album celebration.
"Viva La Vida is one of HMV's biggest-ever selling downloads, and it's helping to take our digital service to a much wider audience."
