Dragon's Den Band Become An Overnight Success
Article published: Wed, 23 July 2008 00:06:24AM

Indie group Hamfatter have literally become an overnight success, selling 1,500 singles following their appearance on Dragon's Den, according to an entertainment retailer.

Play.com said that in the hours directly after last night's (Monday) BBC Two show, the single The Girl I Love was downloaded 755 times between 10pm and midnight using its MP3 download service PlayDigital.

Head of music at Play, Helen Marquis, said: "TV is the one medium that can directly relate to instant sales of downloads and such was the case with Hamfatter.

"It is great to see that independent music can still survive with minimal backing."

The Cambridge band braved the suited panel of tycoons, looking for £75,000 in an unusual bid to support the launch of their new album.

Their dream became reality, with Peter Jones sealing the unconventional deal following a bidding war with other Dragons.
