Deftones - B Sides & Rarities
Nice and glossy CD and DVD package.

Behind the glossy, sleek and nice looking packaging lays two disks, one CD, one DVD, a welcome sight for any Deftones fanatic.

'B Sides & Rarities' is oddly enough a collection of the B sides and rarities since their entry into the record buying publics world in 1995.

The CD showcases 14 tracks that have been dug up from the hardest of all places to find, each and every one documented in a neat track-by-track commentary by the band in the packages wallet.

Included in the 14 tracks are three acoustic versions of 'Change (In the House of Flies)', 'Digital Bath' and 'Be Quiet and Drive (Far Away)' and come as a welcome break from the others on the album.

Most tracks are fairly slow-paced, the band are certainly not going for gold by seeing how many peoples ears they can explode and the mid-tempo songs are very listenable once you a-custom yourself the Chico's vocals, which are very dull and dreary throughout, at times making look like an X Factor auditionee sound good.

The DVD contains 12 music videos including two live songs - Engine Number 9 and the bonus feature, Root. The videos from live events are well produced with seamless editing from footage at different locations - but lets not get too side tracked, we're not here to compare the videos to Stephen Spielberg's talent.

Overall not one for my personal liking but this is the type of release that a fan of any group will rush to go and add to their collection at the earliest oppertunity.

The Deftones are currently writing and recording tracks for their fifth album which is scheduled for a release early next year.

3/5.

'B Sides & Rarities' is released November 7th.
