Uniting Nations - One World
One World, 13 tracks.
Uniting Nations have had a cracking 2005, dance music is no longer topping the charts, urban and R&B has taken over and we now live in an era where someone with nine shots to the head can release a mediocre single and get #1, without fail.
Despite this Uniting Nations' debut single spent a massive 21 weeks in the top 75, one of the longest charting singles of the year - amazingly only appearing in the top 10 for three of those weeks.
The Uniting Nations sound sets it path on commercial success, with the vocalists performing to the mass audience.
It is not often that an album from a dance act is released, and has success in the charts. So far this year one of the standout dance albums has been from Deep Dish, with a more deep house feel rather then the guitar and bassline mix that Uniting Nations offer.
There's a reason that dance albums by an artist are not released week on week, it seems that many have trouble producing more tracks that don't sound the same or run out of ideas.
Unfortunately it seems that this album proves that point correct.
The album tracks seem to have an overpowering bassline, a quieter and less evident bass would make for much more listenable tracks.
Not all is lost though, the album does show some variation, tracks such as 'Tonight (In the City)' shows that there is more then just 3 buttons on their production software.
'Loving You' is everything that 'Out of Touch' was, happy vocals and a cracking piano and a hook which stays in your mind for a long time.
Other tracks though sound very amaturish, 'Feels Like Heaven' feels incredibley empty, the sound is too flat and whoever is providing vocals for the track sounds as if he is singing in your ear right beside you.
I touched on dance producers running out of ideas, Uniting Nations certainly haven't but they have included a track which sounds like a remastered version of 'Out of Touch' with different vocals, 'Make Love' even has cresendos and what-not in similar positions as 'Out of Touch' and a matching beat.
'Destiny' is an interesting track on the album, it takes a much more electronic approach with a trance-like effect, a very enjoyable bouncey house track.
'One World' could be better, but it is by no means a lousy record, full of tracks to make you get up and move, 'One World' is the dance album of the year so far.
The inclusion of five accapellas and two samples will also go down a treat with the DJs.
3/5.
